Self-Advocacy & Multiple Pathways

We provide the education, resources, mentorship and support so that individuals are able to choose their own pathway to recovery and build a customized recovery plan. We educate people regarding the many self-help and treatment options that exist that they may be completely unaware of. Ultimately, we want to create a more collaborative environment with the individual so that he or she can commit to a program with the right intensity, frequency and setting, We are eager to mentor and include family members and significant others in the process as we believe they should feel empowered to leverage their knowledge and influence as it pertains to their loved one getting healthy.

Our peer services can be customized for individuals, families or organizations eliminating barriers to the access of peer mentorship and aftercare wellness planning that is person-centered, practical and sustainable.

Now Offering An Evidence-Based Recovery Support Curriculum

The R1 curriculum is structured to meet people where they’re at. Topics were selected based upon their ability to map to leading competency models and existing evidence-based curricula such as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) TAP 21 publication for Substance Use, the SAMHSA Peer Competencies, American Society For Addiction Medicine Levels of Care, the MATRIX Model offering a structured approach, Living and Balance, and more. The curricula is applied to individual situations and circumstances leading to a higher degree of internalization which can serve to motivate measurable change. This virtual learning platform is included with all peer and family services.

“My peer helped me to make changes that were meaningful and sustainable for me.”

— John O

While the body of research is still growing, there is mounting evidence that people receiving peer recovery coaching show reductions in substance use, improvements on a range of recovery outcomes, or both.

Take a moment to view SAMSHA’s publication on the findings of two rigorous systematic reviews which examined the body of published research on the effectiveness of peer delivered recovery supports published between 1995 and 2014. Both concluded that there is a positive impact on participants (Bassuk, Hanson, Greene, Richard & Laudet, 2016; Reif et al, 2014)
